Day 1 in Uganda
The drive from Kampala to Mihingo Lodge adjacent to Lake Mburo National Park takes about 4 hours, so you can make it for a late lunch, if you leave Kampala at about 8.00 am. After lunch you can have a swim or relax in your privately located room. For a more active afternoon we suggest a walk around the lodge looking for klipspringers amongst the rocks or a 2 to 3 hour game walk starting at Mihingo Lodge at about 4.00 pm. Please inform management or staff if you would like to do this walk so they can arrange the UWA guide. You will be back for sundowners on the decking nestled amongst the trees with a stunning view onto the water hole or sit next to the camp fire watching the sun setting over the hills in Lake Mburo National Park . Alternatively you might want to consider a relaxing massage in the afternoon or go on a horse back safari. Don't miss seeing the bush-babies coming close to the bar area just after dusk.
Day 2 Mihingo Lodge
If you want to make the most out of your stay in terms of wildlife related activities we suggest getting up at 5:15 am to leave Mihingo Lodge at 5:45 am to drive to the Rwonyo Park Headquarter and go on a game walk starting at 6:30 am. If you leave this early you will have a good chance of seeing hyenas coming back to their den and hippos walking back to the water, you will see buffalo, zebra, impala and topi and with a bit of luck maybe even a sitatunga, an antelope rarely seen that lives in the papyrus swamps. After your early morning walk come back to Mihingo Lodge for a late breakfast with a view onto the water hole.
If you do not feel like getting up so early you can also leave Mihingo Lodge between 7:00 and 8:00 am and still have a great walk but without seeing the hyenas and hippos or you can just relax at the lodge. We have had guests staying 3 nights without leaving Mihingo Lodge once and they absolutely loved it.
Another alternative would is to go on a 2 to 3 hour horse back safari starting at 7:30 am from Mihingo Lodge. This is one of the most exciting ways of experiencing nature and seeing wildlife. Please ask our managers and staff for further information.
Before lunch you can relax at the pool, the bar area or enjoy the privacy of your room. In the afternoon you could go on a game drive to Kazuma Look-out Point with a stunning view onto 9 of the lakes surrounding Lake Mburo National Park . On your way you will see most of the animal species occurring in the Park. The walk onto Kazuma Look-out Point is steep but short and extremely rewarding and should not be missed when visiting Lake Mburo National Park .
Day 3 Mihingo Lodge
The boat trip on Lake Mburo are very relaxing. After breakfast you could drive to the Park Headquarter and go for a boat trip at 10:00 am. You will see many hippos, a few crocodiles and a large variety of bird species. If you are lucky you might see buffalo from the boat and other wildlife and with a lot of luck may even spot a leopard. We recommend driving back to Mihingo Lodge for lunch and enjoying the pool. In the afternoon you could go on a game drive on the Eland Track, this track is great to see eland and buffalo and all the other plains game. You will be back in time for sundowners and dinner. Or you could go on a horse back safari starting at Mihingo Lodge, if you have done this ride on one of the other days and enjoyed it you might well want to do it again.
There are enough activities like rides, different walks, massages and swimming without having to drive much. But exploring Lake Mburo National Park on game drives is also very exciting. There are plenty of activities to do something different for at least 3 whole days.
